Good Evening Darlings,

I feel like I've only been back from Africa for a few days but already I'm off on another adventure. Tonight is my last night in NYC for the next 3 weeks because tomorrow morning I'm flying to Sedona, Arizona for a Winter Solstice celebration at Mii Amo Spa. I have never been to this part of the US before so naturally I am very excited. And what better way to finish off 2015 than a 5 day spa retreat in the mountains?

The Eight Senses Pop-up #120Wooster

Hello My Darlings, 

I'm SO thrilled to share with you that I've teamed up with the incredible people over at Refinery 29 to illustrate from the new The Eight Senses collection in celebration of their Pop-Up Shop at #120Wooster.




Meeting with the designer, and trying on nearly every piece of the collection, I became totally enchanted with the brand, its intuitive and purposeful design, minimal aesthetic, and the way it made me feel. The clothes just move with your body so seamlessly, and have such an understated elegance to them, that you can't help but feel confident while wearing them.



My aim in illustrating from the collection was to really capture the essence of the structural and intelligent designs. The sketches were made to feel constructed and conceptual. They are striking and hand crafted just like the garments themselves.



My two favorite pieces are the ones you see me rocking above and below, the sleek wool vest and dramatic black blanket coat. Both items felt like they belonged with me as soon as a I tried them on.




Head down to Soho from now until the end of December to try these pieces for yourself. I assure you, you will not be disappointed.

From the time I was a little girl, I have LOVED reading Harper's Bazaar. The look and feel of the magazine, the way the photos seemed larger than life, for me it was the the holy grail of fashion magazines. Fashion's Front Line: Illustration for The Kit Canada

There was much talk this season about Givenchy designating a certain number of tickets to their show for the general public. I for one thought it was a genius idea. Fashion doesn't have to be so elitist. SO when Toronto's fashion publication, The Kit, approached me about illustrating the public line at the show, I jumped at the opportunity to do so. I went down to Pier 26 where the show was being held on September 11. It was going to be an event that both celebrated New York and commemorated the heartbreak of 9/11. It looked as though the sky was glistening just for that occasion! I took photos of the excited students and Givenchy enthusiasts and put together the illustration you see printed in the paper above. Such a cool assignment to work on, especially for my hometown!!

In the midst of all this crazy amazing stuff happening with Vanity Fair and Karlie Kloss regramming my illustration of her during NYFW, I somehow managed to make it onto the Harper's Bazaar revised list of 12 Fashion Illustrators to Follow on Instagram. When this list came out a year ago, September 2014, I was so sad to not make the cut. BUT it fuelled me that much more to keep pushing and getting bigger partnerships and more awareness of Travel Write Draw. The moral here: never say never, it isn't over till you quit, work harder than you ever dreamed imaginable, and do cool shit....I think that just about sums it up :)

This NYFW I really wanted to do a unique editorial partnership that differed from last season's Lucky Magazine collaboration. I was absolutely OVER THE MOON when that partnership turned out to be with the one and only Vanity Fair!!!! From their massive Caitlyn Jenner cover this Summer, to their September issue with Taylor Swift, and now the spontaneous untouched photo shoot with Demi Lovato, Vanity Fair is absolutely trail blazing. You can imagine my excitement over having the opportunity to partner with a publication that I so deeply respect and admire. When they brainstormed the idea of having me illustrate quirky pairings front row and backstage at fashion week, I just about burst in two. Above is the sketch I did of Karlie Kloss and Kendall Jenner backstage at DVF which Karlie regrammed to her 3.2 million followers here!!!!!!!!


Above is Selena Gomez and Brooklyn Beckham at Polo Ralph Lauren.

Then I got to illustrate this incredible girl squad above sitting front row at Zac Posen, including Jennifer Hudson, Christina Hendricks, Bella Thorne, and AMY SCHUMER!!

I don't think there could have been a better pairing than Debbie Harry and Nicki Minaj sitting front row at Givenchy SS16. Nicki gave so much sass it was fantastic to draw!!

Drawing Live at NYFW with WN Pigment Markers

After kickstarting NYFW with E! News & Fashion Police, I jumped right into my next partnership with Winsor & Newton. This Fall they are launching their brand new pigment markers, which are soooo fun to play with btw, so we teamed up to introduce them at New York Fashion Week. I got invited to a few of my favorite designers' shows and presentations and brought the markers along for the fun. I sketched front row at Creatures of Comfort, straight from the models at Tanya Taylor and Mansur Gavriel, and created some final pieces at home in my studio. E! News & Fashion Police NYFW Party!!

Hello Lovesssss!! 

I promised I would catch you all up on the happenings of this past NYFW so get ready for back to back posts detailing the partnerships and excitement that went down. This season kicked off with a bang when I was asked by E! Entertainment Television to illustrate live at their fashion week party in the Meatpacking District. This was/is arguably the biggest live event I have done to date, because I not only illustrated celebrities, but also did it while being filmed for E! News and Fashion Police. I got to sketch Melissa Rivers and Brad Goreski, the hosts of FP, all while they interviewed me. Many of my friends sent me photos and clips of the episode which aired on Sept 14th, 2015 because of course I don't own a television in New York :P! Good Evening My Darlings!!

I'm currently writing this post from my ocean view room at The Ritz-Carlton St. Thomas. I sort of skipped over all the crazy, amazingness of fashion week here on the blog, to bring you right up to speed with where I am at this moment. This past week I celebrated my 30th birthday (I can't even believe I'm writing that) and the celebrations continue here in the Virgin Islands with the incredible Ritz staff. So far I've been greeted with cupcakes decorated with my illustrations as icing, as well as a bottle of champagne, and a deep tissue massage. I can assure you after NYFW this season, I needed every minute of it...

BUT right now it is time to be present at this beautiful hotel, in this sparkling destination. I promise, promise, promise, I will catch you all up in the wonderful happenings of New York fashion week when I'm home in a few days.

Travel is transformative. Seeing the world, and discovering new cultures and ways of life, has been the greatest privilege I have ever known. It is when my spirit feels most alive and when I feel most inspired to create my art. I have learned so much about myself by traveling outside my comfort zone. And though I have observed many differences in the way we live around the world, from South America to North Africa, Southeast Asia to the Middle East, I can confidently attest that human kindness and compassion is deeply universal. More often it is the people, not the places, that have made my journeys across the globe.

That is why when American Express Travel approached me this Summer to partner with them on their Journeymakers campaign, I leapt at the opportunity to contribute. I want nothing more than to honor the people who made my journeys so life changing and who irrevocably touched my heart. In the words of Maya Angelou "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." The exact words and actions, the chronology and order of events, might get a little muddled in memory, but the way these following individuals made me feel still stays with me today:



Jeenah Mari-Rose - Thailand, Laos, & Cambodia (March 2015)

My journey to Southeast Asia this past March was a big undertaking. I joined a 14 day live tour across Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia to discreetly cover the experience through Travel Write Draw. It was my fourth time touring with this company but my first time being hired to do it as an influencer. And as I quickly came to know, there are some things in life you can never quite be prepared for. Southeast Asia is a feast for the eyes but often draws people who are undergoing personal transitions. It is a region marked by many hardships but a great deal of hope too.

When I met my guide Jeenah in the hallway of our hotel in Bangkok, I was immediately impressed by her calm, collectedness. She struck me as someone who had seen a lot in her young life. She was vivacious and bold, having recently returned from a surfing trip to Morocco on her own. I felt a natural ease with her from the get go and our bond was quickly formed with her being the only person on the tour who knew I was there as a member of press. She was eager for me to see and experience the best, making sure I had the right art supplies and best views, to illustrate my journey.

Helloooooooo World!!!!

How have you all been?! I can't believe we are already at the end of August!! Where is the time going?! I haven't posted in such a while, though I'm constantly checking for new comments on the blog. Life has been quite chaotic lately. I was back home in Toronto last week participating in a talk series called FASHION 2.0 hosted by Textstyles & The Drake Hotel. BUT this post is devoted to my ridiculously fabulous trip to Dorado Beach, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve a few weeks ago.

In case there was ever any doubt whether you should visit this hotel, I can assure you, this is an absolute slice of PARADISE!! It is easily one of my favorite trips I've ever done. We were so well looked after. The staff treated us with such care and consideration. Everywhere you walked they knew you by name. I had the most incredible spa experience and mouth watering meals. I went snorkelling with the ambassadors of the environment crew and drew all my inspirations. Just see for yourself below...

Happy Sunday Lovelies, 

Just a quick post to let you all know that tomorrow I'm heading to Puerto Rico's Caribbean coast to experience an intimate influencer retreat at Dorado Beach, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve. And guess what, I'm taking you all with me!! I will be there with 3 other influencers: Lindsey Calla, Adam Goldberg, and Natalie Joos, instagramming and snap chatting the whole way through. From the looks of the itinerary, I think they have some super fun stuff planned for us and I can't wait!!

Not the End. Just the Beginning.

People often ask me what it feels like now to be living the dream, in other words, what it feels like to be working as a full-time fashion illustrator. And to be honest, I really don't know how to answer. I'm not sure if it's because I don't want to disappoint them, or if I'm more scared to disappoint myself. Because guess what, living the dream is not actually a dream, it is hard f**king work. I never thought I would have to worry so much, about so many different things, all at the same time.

It's been 11 months since I quit my corporate job in New York and since then I have had the craziest year of my life. When I got to be a Suggested User on Instagram in September 2014, I was literally catapulted from an up-and-coming illustrator with 8,000 followers, to a whopping 145,000 followers in 3 weeks. Then came the great Instagram purge of 2014, that shaved off 24,000 followers, and I've been steadily growing my following back ever since.
